Let’s talk about sex baby… while dealing with our homegirl peri.

Can we normalize this conversation?

Perimenopause has a way of making you question yourself. One day you feel like yourself, and the next you’re wondering where your energy, your patience, your confidence, or even your desire disappeared to. Let’s be clear it’s not that intimacy isn’t enjoyable anymore. It’s that your hormones are working overtime, and your mind and body don’t always seem to be on the same page. You’re tired. You’re mentally carrying the weight of work, home, kids, aging parents, relationships, and somehow still trying to take care of yourself. By the time your head finally hits the pillow, your body isn’t saying, “Let’s be intimate.” It’s saying, “Please let me rest.”

Then there’s the physical side of it. Your body may not respond the way it once did. You may notice changes in arousal, vaginal dryness, interrupted sleep, hot flashes, or simply feeling disconnected from your own body. That can create pressure not just from your partner, but from yourself. You start wondering, What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I feel like I used to?The truth is nothing is “wrong” with you.

Your body is changing, and with that change comes a new season of learning. Intimacy may look different than it did in your 20s or 30s, and that’s okay. Different doesn’t mean worse. It simply means giving yourself permission to discover what your body needs now. Maybe intimacy starts with a conversation instead of a bedroom. Maybe it’s holding hands on the couch.
Maybe it’s asking your partner for patience instead of pretending everything is fine.
Maybe it’s talking with your healthcare provider about symptoms instead of silently accepting them. And maybe it’s giving yourself a little more grace.

Your worth has never been measured by your libido. Your relationship isn’t built on one chapter of your life. Healthy intimacy is about connection, communication, affection, and understanding just as much as it is about sex. So if you’re feeling the pressure, take a deep breath. You are not broken. You are not failing. You are navigating a transition that millions of women experience, even if not enough of us are talking about it.

Let’s start talking about it. Because the more we share our stories, the less alone we all feel. ❤️

xoxo
