Learning To Let Go

I’ve loved so hard that it left me raw, anxious, and exhausted. Loving with everything I had felt like both a gift and a curse, each moment filled with joy, but also with tension, uncertainty, and fear. My heart opened fully, but in doing so, I invited discomfort I wasn’t ready to handle.
Now, as I stand on the other side of that love, I feel a heaviness in my chest, a constant hum of anxiousness that whispers I shouldn’t try again. The fear is palpable, fear that vulnerability will only lead to pain, that opening up could destroy me again. I want to protect myself, to build walls high enough to never feel that intensity again.
But letting go isn’t just about moving on from the person, it’s about reclaiming my own peace. I am learning to cope in small, intentional ways:
Breathing and grounding exercises: When anxiety spikes, I pause, breathe deeply, and focus on my senses—feeling my feet on the ground, noticing sounds around me, tasting the air.
Journaling emotions: Writing freely without judgment helps me process thoughts that feel overwhelming. I can pour out the fear, sadness, and anger safely onto the page. Setting healthy boundaries: I remind myself that I don’t need to force contact or overextend my energy to prove love. Protecting myself is not selfish, it’s essential.
Mindful self-compassion: I practice speaking kindly to myself, acknowledging that loving deeply is a strength, not a weakness.
Movement and physical care: Walking, stretching, or gentle exercise helps release the tension stored in my body.
Small joys and rituals: Engaging in things I love reading, music, dancing, or quiet moments alone that reminds me life still holds beauty beyond the anxiety.
I am learning that letting go doesn’t erase the love; it transforms it. I can honor what I gave and still take steps toward peace. I can grieve without letting grief chain me. And maybe, one day, I can allow myself to be vulnerable again not recklessly, not fearfully, but wisely, with an open heart that knows its own strength.
For now, letting go is simply breathing, feeling, and reminding myself that I am enough, lovable, resilient, and capable of surviving even the most intense storms of the heart.
